Might as Well Face It, You’re Addicted to Law
Christian Post - I’ll never forget hearing Dr. Doug Kelly (one of my theology professors in seminary) saying in class, “If you want to make people mad, preach law. If you want to make them really, really mad preach grace.” I didn’t know what he meant then. But I do now.
The law offends us because it tells us what to do–and we hate anyone telling us what to do, most of the time. But, ironically, grace offends us even more because it tells us that there’s nothing we can do, that everything has already been done. And if there’s something we hate more than being told what to do, it’s being told that we can’t do anything, that we can’t earn anything–that we’re helpless, weak, and needy.
The law, at least, assures us that we determine our own destiny.
The law does promise life to me,

This we understand. And we like it. We like it because we maintain control–the outcome of our life remains in our hands. Give me three steps to a happy marriage and I can guarantee myself a happy marriage if I follow the three steps. If we can do certain things, meet certain standards (whether God’s, my own, my parents, my spouse’s, society’s, whatever) and become a certain way, we’ll make it. Law seems safe because “it breeds a sense of manageability.” It keeps life formulaic and predictable. It keeps earning-power in our camp.

Mich. Church Opens Tattoo Parlor to Draw Alternative Crowd
Christian Post - A Michigan church has a very unusual ministry outreach – a tattoo parlor housed in its church building.
The Bridge, a non-denominational church in Flint Twp., Mich., opened a tattoo parlor within its building last month. Titled Serenity Tattoo, church members say it’s showing people living an alternative lifestyles an avenue toward the Gospel. It’s just one of many unusual ministry efforts that The Bridge‘s eclectic congregation believes is helping to evolve evangelism in the area.
“There’s a huge misunderstanding in the American church today that the church is a building,” said Steve Bentley, The Bridge’s lead pastor. “It’s not a physical location. The church is us. We use our space for whatever we can to serve the Lord and our community.”
Bentley said he began The Bridge in 2009 to reach the estimated 300,000 people in his church’s Genesee County that have never attended a worship service. Opening a tattoo parlor, he said, is just the latest shape that the original mission of appealing to the unchurched has taken. Other non-traditional outreach efforts The Bridge is involved in include poetry slams, pro wrestling events, mixed martial arts classes and even a motorcycle group.

‘Red Tails’ director Anthony Hemingway and star Nate Parker hope film soars at box office
It has been more than 15 years since HBO brought the story of the Tuskegee Airmen to larger audiences — and now, the story of the black pilots who soared the skies in World War II is hitting the big screen in George Lucas’ Red Tails. The film, which opens today, took Lucas two decades to complete and was hampered by lack of interest by major Hollywood studios. He toldThe Daily Show‘s Jon Stewart the movie’s all-black cast was the reason why.
“This is not the first film that’s had a struggle to get something done or told,” Red Tails director Anthony Hemingway told theGrio’s Todd Johnson in an interview. “We’ve all been trying to take the focus off that. This [film] is about the Tuskegee Airmen.”
